Edita's favourite times
My favourite time of the day is the time after my work, because it is the time when I do everything what I want. I can visit my friends, I can go for a walk with my dog, I can relax in the bed and watch the TV.
My favourite day of the week, when I don't go to work , this is any day of the week. This day I get up realy late, I watch a TV show, after that I do what I want or need.
My favourite month is November, because I was born in this month. This month often is cold, sometimes there is snow. I like it. (=is often - žodeliai terpiasi po 'to be'; tačiau jei būtų kitoks veiksmažodis, būtų prieš)
My favourit public holiday is Cristmas Eve and Cristmas too. Because this=these (nes daugiskaita) days my family meets in my home, also my mom and my sister with her family, and also we meets=meet (nes daugiskaita) in the husband's parents house.We have a very warm and beautiful dinner. Hi, everyone!
I'm Jurate, a middle-aged woman from a small town in the Eastern Europe near the Baltic Sea. I'm single and I live with my Mom in a flat. My mom is retired and I have a full-time job at my town library. I like my work, but I hate sitting at meetings
In my free time I like listening to audiobooks and radio programmes in Englsh on my iPod. I like working in my garden. The garden is 3 kilometres from our town and I usually cycle there. Now it is autumn, but at the moment it is raining little and our garden is dry. I don't mind dry weather, but I am worried what will happen (kas nutiks) in the spring without good rain.

When I think about living in Pasvalys, I find there are things I love, there are things I don't mind and there are things I hate.
I love our town for its green parks and for its centre . They are well kept (tvarkomas, prižiūrimas). I also enjoy going to Pasvalys swimming pool sometimes. It is so nice to have a sauna there!
I don't mind bumpy [bampi] (duobėti) roads in Pasvalys. It is the nature - the ground moves and sinks (žemė juda ir smenga) in Pasvalys.
I hate stinking (smirdėjimą) of the factory Kurana. Thanks God, it stinks only sometimes!
I also hate litter [lite] (numestas šiukšles). It is sad that people leave litter in the parks, by the river, around the benches[benčiz] (suoliukai), around the bins (šiukšliadėžes).

Do you feel the stink of Kurana where you live?

I,m married and I live with my husband.We have one daughter.
She is 34. She lives in Canada.
I work in the kindergarden.I like my work.
We have a country house in Dauyenai village.The village is 12 kilometres from Pasvalys.
We have a big yard and a garden.
we usually go by car there.
Now it is autumn.I like this time.The wheather is beautiful. It is sunny,not windy,warm and very colourful.
I love our small town.

I personally sometimes like listening to music loud but no one can hear it because I always use earphones.

Right now I'm listening to electronic piano music. I like listening to dreamy electronic music with no words.

I read little these days. I don't know what book to choose as my favourite novel. Maybe "The Little Prince" by Saint Exupery? Because it is short and wise [uaiz] (išmintinga).

Why do we change the clocks?

It's that time of year again where we turn the clocks backwards (atgal) and all get one hour more in bed!
The clocks went backward(atgal) on Sunday 28th October 2018 at 2am - so we were asleep when it happened!
When the clocks change like this, we are moving from what is called British Summer Time (BST) - also known as Daylight Saving Time (DST) (dienos šviesos taupymo metas) or GMT+1 - back to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
Whose idea was it to change the clocks?
An American politician and inventor called Benjamin Franklin first came up with (sugalvojo) the idea when he stayed in Paris in 1784.
He said that if people got up earlier (anksčiau), when it was lighter (šviesiau), they would save(sutaupytų) on candles.
But it arrived in the UK after a builder called William Willett, thought it was a good idea too.
In 1907, he published a leaflet (skrajutę) called The Waste of Daylight (Dienos šviesos švaistymas) , encouraging(ragindamas) people to get out of bed earlier.
When did we start changing our clocks?
The idea of moving the clocks forwards(pirmyn) and backwards was discussed by the government in 1908, but many people didn't like it so it wasn't made a law.
Willett spent his life trying to convince(bandydamas įtikinti) people that it was a good idea, but it was only introduced (įvesta) in the UK in 1916 - a year after he died.
It was actually first introduced by the Germans (tiesą sakant, pirmieji įvedė vokiečiai) in World World One, just before(prieš pat) the UK did it.
Now, the UK's clocks always go back by one hour on the last Sunday in October and forward by one hour on the last Sunday in March.
Moving clocks like this is now done (padaroma, atliekama) in some countries across the world, but many don't do this.
What do people think of it?
Many people have different opinions if we should (turėtume) change our clocks like this.
Some think changing the clocks is a good thing because it saves (taupo) energy and helps to reduce (sumažinti) traffic accidents.
Others don't like changing the clocks. They say that it doesn't actually save any energy, and it can make it darker when children are going to school in the morning, which can be dangerous. They also think it is not very good for our health.

If you have time and want to practice English, please write on the Forum - answer these two questions:
1. Did you like, hate or didn't mind changing the clocks in spring and in autumn?
2. Are you happy that in Lithuania we won't change the clocks anymore and will stay on summer time all year?

In my opinion, it wasn't very good to change the clocks twice a year. I didn't like it. I hated to move from winter time to summer time because I had to get up one hour earlier.
I like the idea to have the same time all year. But I'm sad that we will stay on summer time. My favourite was winter time.
